Once Every 3 To 4 Weeks. Here's Why.

A dog's skin makes its own oil, and that oil is the coat's conditioner and the skin's first line of defence. Every wash, however gentle, lifts some of it away, and the skin needs about three weeks to build it back to full strength. Bathe inside that window and the skin never quite catches up: the coat goes dull, the skin dries, flakes appear, and the scratching starts. Dogs that are groomed often, whether at home or at the salon, are the ones we see this in most. So unless your vet has asked for a different schedule, wait the full 3 to 4 weeks between baths. Cleaner is not always better; rested skin is.

Then put back what washing takes out.

Outside
While the coat is still damp, mist with Paw & Pavement Mist. It lays Aloe ferox and moisture onto clean skin at the moment it can use them most, and it keeps paws and belly fresh so you are not reaching for the shampoo early.
Inside
A daily pump of 100% Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil over food. The omega-3 fats in salmon oil are the building blocks a dog's skin uses to make its natural oils and to hold moisture in the coat. Frequent grooming draws on those reserves; the oil tops them up from the inside, where no shampoo can reach.

Ingredients - What Each One Does

Wild-harvested aloe ferox: The leaf gel, carrying the plant's own amino acids, vitamins and minerals
Vitamin E: Conditions the coat and supports the skin's own barrier
Rosemary and eucalyptus: Botanical extracts that leave the coat clean and fresh
Lavender and chamomile: Calming botanicals that settle skin after a wash

How To Use

1 Wet the coat Wet it all the way to the skin with warm water. A dry patch under the coat means shampoo sits on it instead of rinsing off.
2 Lather Work a small amount through from neck to tail, keeping clear of eyes and ears. A little goes further than you expect.
3 Rinse, then rinse again Rinse until the water runs clear, then give one more rinse. Most post-bath itching comes from shampoo left behind, not from the shampoo itself.
4 Towel dry and finish Mist while damp, Salmon Oil with dinner.

Before the first bath, dab a little behind one ear, leave it on for a few minutes, rinse, and check the skin the next day. Every dog is different, and a patch test tells you in 24 hours what a full bath would tell you in a week.

Description

Every foaming dog shampoo on the shelf makes the same trade. It can be fully natural, or it can sit at a perfectly neutral pH, but it cannot be both, because the gentle preservatives that keep a natural formula safe only work in a mildly acidic one. We chose natural. Our shampoos are washed with cleansers made from sugar and coconut, the mildest class used in skincare, and kept fresh with the same food-grade acids found in natural face wash. Nothing sulfated, nothing harsh, every ingredient named on the bottle.

It is about as gentle as a foaming shampoo for a dog gets, and that is the whole point of it.

Aloe ferox grows wild across the Eastern Cape, a taller and hardier plant than the one on most kitchen windowsills. People there have reached for the cut leaf on irritated skin for generations, which is why it leads this formula rather than sitting somewhere down the ingredient list.

This is the bottle to pick up when your dog's skin is the problem rather than the mud: the seasonal itcher, the one who comes back from a long walk unable to settle, the dog whose coat you would rather not test with anything unfamiliar. Common Questions

What is the pH of the shampoo?
5.6 to 5.8, which is mildly acidic. Healthy dog skin does not have a single pH; measured across breeds, body areas and seasons it ranges from roughly 5.5 to 7.5, and our shampoos sit inside that range.
Why doesn't the label say pH balanced for dogs?
Because that phrase usually means a product set at 7, and ours is not. We would rather tell you the actual number and let you decide than use a phrase that does not describe the bottle in your hand.
My dog gets muddy every week. Do I really have to wait 3 to 4 weeks?
Yes, and mud is the easy case. Let it dry, brush it out, and rinse with plain warm water if you need to; water alone shifts mud without touching the skin's oils. A spritz of Paw & Pavement Mist sorts the smell. Save the shampoo for when the coat is greasy or the dog has rolled in something, not for when it is merely dirty.
My dog's skin is already dry and flaky. Will the shampoo help?
Dry, flaky skin is usually a sign the coat has been washed more often than the skin can keep up with, so the first fix is a longer gap between baths, not a different shampoo. When you do bathe, the Aloe Shampoo is the one to use, and pairing it with the Mist afterwards and daily Salmon Oil with meals gives the skin support from both sides while it recovers. If the flaking continues, or the skin is red, ask your vet to take a look.
My dog is licking his coat after the bath. Is that a problem?
It is normal, especially with the Marula & Rooibos scent, and nothing in the shampoos is a concern in the small amount left on a rinsed coat. A thorough rinse and a good towel dry keep it to a minimum.
Is the scent from essential oils?
The Aloe Shampoo is scented with rosemary, eucalyptus and lavender essential oils. Baobab & Honeybush and Marula & Rooibos use a fragrance blend, listed as Fragrance in the ingredients, so you can see exactly which is which.
My dog has sensitive skin. Which one should I choose?
Start with the Aloe Shampoo and do the patch test behind one ear. If your dog's skin is currently under treatment, check with your vet before switching anything.
