Origin & Storage
Description
Sweet potato already goes into several of our bakes, and dogs like its natural sweetness, so a jerky made from nothing else was an easy next step. We start with whole sweet potatoes and steam them until they are soft right through, then slice them into strips and dehydrate them. Steaming first is the step that matters. Dried raw, sweet potato turns into a brittle chip that a dog finishes in two crunches. Steamed, the strip keeps its bend and dries into something closer to a fruit leather.
How to serve it
A whole strip makes a good chew for a medium or large dog. Treats are best kept to about a tenth of the day's food. Supervise while they chew and keep fresh water nearby.
Keeping it
Reseal the bag after each use and keep it somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sun.
