Surgery DaySpray in the Recovery Cage Before and After Surgery The Findings: 46 shelter dogs having a routine spay or neuter spent 30 minutes before and after surgery in cages sprayed 20 minutes earlier with either the pheromone (24 dogs) or the carrier liquid alone (22 dogs). The pheromone dogs stayed more alert and looked around more after surgery, and their prolactin, a hormone that shifts with stress, fell less than in the comparison group. Barking VolumeTwo Pumps in the Kennel Corners The Findings: 25 dogs in a rescue shelter were observed with and without two pumps of Adaptil spray in the corners of their kennel 30 minutes beforehand. Shelter DogsSpray on a Bandana, Bedding and Kennel The Findings: 31 highly aroused shelter dogs were assigned either Adaptil spray on a bandana, their bedding and the kennel corners (16 dogs) or no treatment (15 dogs).
