ThunderEase Dog Calming Collar

Dogs settle to a scent signal their mother produces while nursing, and this is a synthetic copy of it. Around 13 placebo-controlled trials sit behind the molecule, more than any other non-drug calming option carries. The collar is the version your dog wears, warmed by body heat, so it travels with them.

  • A collar was the format used in the storm-noise trial, where treated dogs showed less fear than the placebo group. Worth knowing if fireworks are the problem.
  • Small for dogs up to 25 lb, Large for 25 lb and over.
  • Lasts up to 30 days, and keeps working through baths, rain and puddles.
  • Fit it snugly. It needs contact with the skin to warm up, and a loose one does very little.

New Home TransitionEfficacy of Dog Appeasing Pheromone (DAP) in Reducing Stress Associated with Social Isolation in Newly Adopted Puppies The Findings: 66 puppies adopted from pet shops wore either an Adaptil collar (32) or a placebo collar (34). Every treated puppy had settled within 3 days. About two-thirds of the placebo puppies were still disturbing their owners at two weeks, or settled only once allowed into the owner's bedroom or given another dog for company. Gaultier, E., et al. Thunder & Noise ReliefDog-Appeasing Pheromone Collars Reduce Sound-Induced Fear and Anxiety in Beagle Dogs: A Placebo-Controlled Study The Findings: 24 beagles heard a recorded thunderstorm while wearing either an Adaptil collar or a placebo collar, 12 per group. During the storm, active fear signs rose almost twice as much in the placebo dogs. Afterwards the placebo dogs' scores kept climbing while the collar dogs' scores fell, and more of the collar dogs took themselves off to a hiding spot. Landsberg, G. M., Beck, A., Lopez, A., et al. Puppy ClassesPheromone Against Placebo Through Eight Weeks of Training The Findings: 45 puppies aged 12 to 15 weeks went through eight weeks of puppy classes on either the pheromone or a placebo, with the investigator, trainers and owners all blinded. The pheromone puppies showed significantly less fear and anxiety and played and interacted for longer. At follow-up calls up to a year later, their owners described them as better socialised and quicker to settle in new places. Denenberg, S., & Landsberg, G. M. (2008).
