Scientific Studies
Green-lipped mussels have been part of coastal Māori diets for centuries, and modern researchers took notice for a simple reason: the people eating them didn't seem to get arthritis. What the science eventually found inside the mussel was an unusual combination — Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA) alongside a rich profile of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), the building blocks of cartilage and the synovial fluid that cushions every joint.
That combination is why whole mussel powder outperforms isolated glucosamine: you're feeding the entire natural matrix, not one component of it.
Why ours is different. Not all green-lipped mussel is equal. Lipid content varies, origin is often vague, and the delicate Omega-3s oxidise easily if the powder isn't handled properly. Our Greenshell™ powder is cold-processed and lipid-stabilised before freeze-drying to protect those fatty acids, then verified: New Zealand Aquaculture's 8+ Lipids quality mark confirms it is genuinely from New Zealand and genuinely exceeds 8% lipids. Our current batch tests at 8.8% lipids and 65.5% protein.
How to use. Mix into food once daily — about one level scoop (1 cc) per 25 lb of bodyweight. Introduce gradually over 5–7 days.
| Dog size | Bodyweight | Daily |
|---|---|---|
| Small | up to 25 lb | 1 scoop |
| Medium | 25–50 lb | 2 scoops |
| Large | 50–90 lb | 3 scoops |
| Giant | 90 lb+ | 4 scoops |
Active support: for dogs with active discomfort, double the daily amount for the first 4–6 weeks, then return to the daily amount. Most dogs show a noticeable difference within 4–6 weeks.
